When hard times hit, it’s no longer just a concern about seeing that there is food for the poor or food for the children. While food for the poor and especially food for the children are most often popularized in the media, in tough economic times they are not the only ones who feel the adverse affects of financial lack.

Everyone we speak with about helping provide for the needs of others less fortunate all agree that compassion towards the least in our society is important, yet they are not the only one’s who suffer great setback when the the economy is slow.  Truth be told, there are tens of millions who are using their credit cards to buy even basic necessities like food, clothing, and even housing, but with no way to pay their rising credit card balances off. Most of these same individuals are only one paycheck away from a total financial meltdown.

Even non-profit organizations, community programs, and local assistance organizations like churches, food banks, soup kitchens, and homeless shelters struggle to keep up with the rising needs of those they serve. This is because most people cut back on their contributions to charities like these when hard times come.

Whether you’re being affected by our present economy or not, and regardless of your political views, we think you’ll agree that helping those adversely affected by our present economy is important. Right?

There is a saying, “If you give a man a fish to eat today, he will be hungry tomorrow. If you teach a man how to fish, he will be empowered to feed himself for a lifetime.”
